4. eDumper
Mining trucks that are entirely electric and propelled by batteries set a higher standard. Numerous corporations are undertaking this endeavor. To illustrate, we shall cite Komatsu 605-7, an industry pioneer, from which the diesel engine was extracted. The apparatus that underwent a complete electric conversion is referred to as an eDumper. The conversion was performed by Kuhn Schweiz AG and Lithium Storage GmbH, both of Switzerland-based enterprises. They "loaded" 700 kWh of energy into the enormous device (the batteries weighed 4.5 tons).
This quantity ought to be adequate to support an average shift of operations. However, the situation near the Swiss city of Biel, where the eDumper was tested, was even more peculiar. Although the vehicle ascended the mountain unladen, it descended carrying 65 tons of stones. As a result, the dump truck produced a greater amount of energy during the descent than it had previously expended during the ascent (40 kWh as opposed to 30 kWh). In addition to maintaining battery charge, it also had the capability to transfer energy to the nearby utility.
3. Nikola Tre BEV
The bronze medalist is the Nikola Tre BEV long-haul tractor, which Nikola Corporation and Iveco collaborated to develop. With a 733 kWh battery, the rated range of this model on a single charge is 531 kilometers.
2. 40-Foot Proterra ZX5 Max
The American intercity bus Proterra ZX5 Max 40-Foot contains an even more substantial "battery" of 738 kWh! The manufacturer guarantees a range of 547 kilometers in a typical driving mode. Prior to that, the Proterra Catalyst E2, a ZX5 model introduced a few years ago, and its "only" 660 kWh battery allowed it to travel 966 kilometers on a single charge during the test period. It is simple to estimate the distance that the ZX5 Max bus can travel under ideal conditions.
1.Tesla Semi
Ambiguity surrounds the Tesla Semi tractor circumstance. The battery parameters have not been formally disclosed by the company as of yet. Elon Musk, the company's CEO, did state that the vehicle's battery would have a capacity of "approximately 500 kWh" last year. Without specifying, he likely referred to the truck's entry-level model, which has a range of 300 miles (482 km). However, the manufacturer's best model of this tractor boasts an impressive range of 500 miles (804 km) per charge. In December 2022, the initial production runs of the Semi in this variant are anticipated to be delivered to the PepsiCo client.
Tesla highlights the energy efficacy of its long-haul truck, specifying that it consumes "less than 2 kWh per mile." Once again, an exact figure has not yet been determined. This provides an approximation of the "top" battery capacity of the Tesla Semi at 600 to 1000 kWh. As a consequence, definitively determining whether it surpasses the battery capacity of the "maximum" Proterra is unattainable. Nevertheless, let's position Semi in first place for the time being. Aside from that, the Tesla Semi lorry recently validated the specified parameters by traveling 804 kilometers on a single charge while carrying a total of 36.74 tons.
